the report was published by the Iraqi Ministries of Health, Planning and Development Cooperation, Health (Kurdistan region), and the Kurdistan Regional Statistics Office in Iraq in collaboration with the World Health Organization and the World Mental Health Survey. Its key findings include the following: 1) women are more psychologically affected than men over the lifetime, 2) the category above 50 years is more affected than the rest of the population, 3) respondents in urban settings are more affected than those in rural settings, 4) there are specific regional (Kurdistan region vs. South/Centre) differences in the expression of mental health pathology, 5) in spite of that nearly half the sample had been exposed to at least one major trauma, 6) more than one third of the population showed significant symptoms of psychiatric disturbances within one month prior to the survey.
